Sub-bass recorder "Direct-Blow", Master, natural birch plywood, Paetzold by Kunath

Product information "Sub-bass recorder "Direct-Blow", Master, natural birch plywood, Paetzold by Kunath"

General information

The instrument from the MASTER series with the article number: 479DB manufactured by Paetzold by Kunath is a musical tool that always brings joy when playing.
This characteristic is due to the masterful combination of the carefully considered design in fine tuning with the advantages of the birch plywood material used.

The unique qualities of the material used for this instrument are strikingly pleasing. The special characteristics can best be described in the following words, whereby it is in the nature of things that sounds can only ever be described very inadequately with words. This is why the sound of recorders, which is typical of the material, is perceived and described slightly differently by each person: Soft, warm.

The scale

The inner bore of the recorder is cylindrical and wider. This type of bore gives the recorder its typical sound.
In principle, instruments with a wider bore sound warmer, fuller, more fundamental and therefore more suitable for ensembles than models with a narrower inner bore.

What styles of music can the instrument be used for

Birch plywood is ideal for instruments used in folk music and for beginners playing the recorder.

Who is this recorder aimed at?

This means that birch plywood recorders are particularly suitable for ambitious amateurs and advanced players. An additional rule of thumb is that a better instrument naturally makes learning easier than a seemingly inexpensive bargain.

The windway of a recorder

The windway is the area in the head of the instrument where the blowing air is moulded into a sheet of air. This air blade is one of the most important elements in the sound production of a recorder. At the labium, the air blade produces the vibration that generates the flute sound. The shape of the windway is therefore very important for the instrument's ability to create music.

The 479DB recorder from Paetzold by Kunath has a windway that is straight and conical in shape.
Conically shaped windways accelerate the air blade more than cylindrical ones.
Windways are very complex in their geometric shape and many parameters influence each other.

Fingering

The Paetzold by Kunath MASTER 479DB recorder is offered in the following fingering: Baroque fingering.

Keys

It is not always possible to place the tone holes in places in the instrument that are comfortable to reach with the hands. For acoustic reasons, some tone holes on bass recorders in particular are located in places that are not ergonomically accessible. On such instruments, the instrument makers fit key mechanisms that make playing much easier or even possible in the first place.
The 479DB instrument has the following keys: Paetzold full folding. This means that it can also be played comfortably by players with smaller hands. This type of key mechanism is unique and legally protected. Especially in Taiwan and Korea, these instruments are often used in schools by internationally renowned teachers for adolescent players.
But even alto players with small hands no longer want to do without the advantages of the Paetzold full-folding mechanism once they have used it.

Construction method

The number of components in a recorder determines in many ways how easy it is to assemble and transport during daily use.
This is a point that should not be underestimated, especially when transporting larger (and sometimes several) instruments.
Experienced ensemble players can tell you a thing or two about this.

Packaging and accessories

The model is supplied as standard with an optional bag/case and useful accessories: grease tin, fingering chart, care instructions

Hygiene tips

If the recorder is shared, we recommend that you repeatedly disinfect the windway for your own protection. Flautisept has proved its worth in these cases. Flautisept is available in our collection.
